          Register of identification card issuers
 

Identification cards, card issuers and the numbering system aimed at unique identification of cards issued are defined by the International Standard ISO/IEC 7812 Identification cards - Identification of issuer, published in two parts:

	ISO/IEC 7812-2:2000, Application and registration procedures.

According to this Standard, all issuers of identification cards in the world, regardless of the type of their activity, are registered at one place – with the American Bankers' Association, Washington, USA, in charge of the application of this International Standard and its maintenance (Registration Authority).

Card issuers are assigned a unique identification number (Issuer Identification Number – IIN).

On the request of potential card issuers from the Republic of Croatia, the Croatian Standards Institute as the national standards body mediates in their registration on the international level. Data are kept in the REGISTER OF CARD ISSUERS.
